EVERYONE SHOULD GO SEE COPPERHEAD the MOVIE! IT EXPLODES the LINCOLN MYTH SUPERBLY! EXCELLENT for HOMESCHOOLED kids for HISTORY and POLITICS!

I went to the 4PM showing of Copperhead the Movie.  I was not disappointed.  It’s a movie everyone should see.  The Abner Beech character expresses my feelings about the so-called Civil War and Lincoln exactly.  Beech did not condone slavery but he believed the war was unnecessary and unconstitutional and openly criticized Lincoln’s suppression of newspapers and drafting people to serve in the war.  It was all I could do to keep from cheering out loud.  (I did cheer but it was very quiet!  There were about seven or nine in my showing.)

Yes the movie is a bit tendentious and it was difficult to keep up with the characters a bit.   But it introduced America to the Peace Democrats (The election scene was searing and worth the cost of admission:  Let’s just say it gives voter ID a new meaning!) and to people like Horatio Seymour, who I knew little about.  Seymour was clearly a skeptic about the war and its necessity.  Here is a pro-Lincoln bio of Governor Seymour.

The abolitionist character was not very attractive but the copperhead was very much attractive; Beech will draw more to him and his cause through his humility and courage.  The romance between the abolitionist’s daughter and Beech’s son, Thomas Jefferson Beech, who goes to fight and is missing after Antietam, is poignant.

I suggest that Americans go see this movie (It is at the Bow Tie Criterion through Sunday at least!) and see the Lincoln myth demolished.  Homeschooling parents could use this movie for many lessons in history and politics in ways that few will cover in the state-approved psychobabble texts we have to endure today.  It should, if I had my way, have a huge turnout among the people.  Go see Copperhead the movie today.
